Toronto Residents Get Free Human-Powered EcoCabs
4/21/2008

Residents of Toronto are about to get a cleaner, greener option for getting around town. As of May 1st, they'll have access to a fleet of 28 EcoCabs, which are small, Jetson-esque cars powered by a trained driver's pedaling, with occasional backup power from a rechargeable electric battery, which can bring the pace up to a still-leisurely 12 kilometers (about 7.5 miles) an hour.

These cabs aren't built for speed, but they've got a far more important function: helping the planet. The EcoCabs have no emissions, and offer a great transportation alternative to visitors and locals alike around the downtown area.

"Canadians - and Torontonians - are ready and open to making changes in their lives to benefit the environment," said William Kozma, president of GO Mobile Media. "EcoCab is easy and fun for commuters and provides opportunity to help reduce our daily carbon footprint."

And best of all, the cabs are funded by corporate sponsors, making them absolutely free for riders. So say goodbye to the Yellow Cab Company – and get ready to ride green.
