You can find all sorts of stuff on eBay: a vintage mink coat, a first-edition Dickens novel, a collectible Rolling Stones LP, and even a grilled cheese sandwich bearing an eerie likeness to the Virgin Mary (
sold for $28,000 – which reminds us to double-check our sandwiches for sacred figures before we take a bite!).
But Ian Usher's upcoming auction might just put the rest of them to shame: He's planning to sell his entire life to the highest bidder.
Don't worry: He's not involved in a morbid plan to shed this mortal coil. But after a bitter divorce, the 44-year-old British expat has decided to rid himself of everything that reminds him of his ex-wife – which, as it turns out, includes pretty much everything he owns.
So he's decided to sell his house in Perth, Australia and everything in it – even his car, motorcycle, and jet ski. Not enough? As an added bonus, he's throwing in an introductory meeting with his friends, and a trial run at his job at a rug shop, with the possibility of a permanent position.
"Everything that I have — the furniture in the house — all has memories attached to it," Usher told
Seven Network television. "It's time to shed the old, and in with the new."
Potential buyers won't be given the chance to pick and choose – Usher's entire "life" will be sold in one lot, with bidding expected to reach at least $390,000, the estimated value of his home.
So what does Usher plan to do with the proceeds from his old life? Buy a new one, from the sounds of it.
"My current thoughts are to then head to the airport, and ask at the flight desk where the next flight with an available seat goes to, and to get on that and see where life takes me from there," he says on his site.
If you'd like to trade in your own life for Usher's second-hand Antipodean adventure, check out his website at
