New Pill Could Cure Snoring
5/12/2008

Did your college roommate request a single room after sharing one night with you? Does your spouse insist on sleeping in the soundproofed bedroom down the hall? Do you sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, swearing there's a bulldozer right outside your house?

When your nighttime noises are so appalling that even your dog can't bear to spend a night in bed with you, you know you've got a problem.

But soon, there may be a solution, thanks to researchers from a company called BTG, who are working to find the solution to every sleepless spouse's biggest problem: snoring.

The new pill, code-named BGC20-0166, is designed to control a common condition called obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OAS), which affects one in every 20 middle-aged men and one in every 50 women. Results of a recent trial were extremely promising: A high-dose treatment with the pill reduced the symptoms of OAS by 40 percent or more.

The drug is still in early trials, so don't expect to see it on pharmacy shelves for quite some time – but once it is, we should all be resting a lot easier.
